About Us
7600 Glacier Highway, Juneau, Alaska 99801 www.glaciergardens.com info@glaciergardens.com Welcome to Glacier Gardens! One man’s vision for a stream reclamation project is a uniquely designed botanical garden nestled in the midst of the mighty Tongass National Rainforest. Arrive to meet your personal tour guide in our Visitor’s Center atrium where hanging gardens and astonishing floral displays greet you to Alaska’s premier garden attraction. From the atrium, follow your guide under colorful Upside-Down Flower Towers, recognized by a Reader’s Digest poll as the Most Interesting Landmark in America in 2012! Learn about the exquisitely landscaped botanical gardens, the reclaimed stream cascading close by, and the innovative garden designs while indulging in the area’s immense history and rare temperate rainforest habitat. Board one of our six passenger covered rainforest shuttles or an 18 passenger power tram vehicle and continue your tour through Alaska’s natural wonderland. Your guides will describe points of interest along the 2 mile long path while allowing for numerous photo opportunities and a chance to view the regions wildlife as you weave your way through the towering forests of Southeast Alaska. Arrive at your destination 580ft up Thunder Mountain where a cliff-side boardwalk leads to a phenomenal panoramic view of Juneau. At the overlook your attention gravitates towards the Mendenhall State Game Refuge at the base of the mountain, south towards downtown Juneau and Douglas Island and the Mendenhall Valley and Auke Bay on the north, all the way across Stephen’s Passage to Admiralty Island and the Chilkat Mountains on the distant horizon. Take your time enjoying the Alaskan scenery before re-boarding your shuttle for the return trip to the Visitor’s Center. In 2004, an adult pair of Alaskan Bald Eagles nested on the property at Glacier Gardens, offering a very unique opportunity to witness the wild birds as they nest, mate, and hatch and raise their offspring each year. We have positioned a camera directed for an aerial vantage point of the nest which offers live streaming video of these majestic birds and their baby eaglets for viewing in our Visitor’s Center, and for online view. Located 7 miles from downtown Juneau, independent travelers arrive by city bus, about a 25 minute ride, or taxi service. The tours lasts about 1 ½ hours and admission includes all day access to the landscaped gardens and Visitor’s Center – so meander the gardens for unique photo opportunities, take a look in our Garden Gift Shop for gifts and souvenirs, or enjoy a cup of coffee or tea and a light snack from our Garden Café before heading onto your next adventure in Alaska’s capital city. Glacier Gardens’ central location allows for easily pairing our tour with other attractions and city combination tours and we can serve as an alternate for tours canceled by inclement weather.
